Fly Casting Lessons in Western Pennsylvania

I offer personalized fly casting lessons for every skill level. Whether you are a total beginner, an intermediate caster looking to level up, or an advanced angler needing a technical “tweak,” I can help you reach your goals.

What to Expect in Your First Lesson

We start by establishing a baseline. I will ask you to make several casts next to a measuring tape. This helps us note your average distance without guidance. From there, we begin to assess your form and mechanics.

To avoid “information overload,” I typically focus on correcting only one or two errors per session. I limit the first lesson to one hour. Casting is physically demanding, and tired muscles lead to poor form.

Private and Group Instruction

I specialize in one-on-one coaching because individual attention is vital for progress. However, I can accommodate small groups of up to three people.

Location Requirements: Lessons take place on dry land, usually a nicely mowed grassy area. We need at least 120 feet of space to allow for safe back casts and forward casts without obstructions.

Common Locations:

  • Oil Creek State Park

  • Riverfront Park (Franklin, PA)

  • Local athletic fields

Why Practice on Land?

We typically do not conduct initial lessons on the water. Grass provides a consistent surface to analyze line physics and loop shape without the distractions of moving water or wading. This environment allows you to focus entirely on your muscle memory and timing.
